WHERE  DOES CORK COME FROM ?

CORK FLOORING

Although Portugal is by far and away the greatest producer of cork, it still possesses potentialities for expanding its cork cultivation by a large amount. For this reason the competent authorities are carrying out vast work of a forestation, using the cork oak for planting in dry land or eroded soils. Generally speaking, in all zones which are regarded as particularly suitable for these species.
The bark is stripped every ten years. This generates new bark growth with no harm to the tree. Cork Oak keeps giving and living.

Because of its unique construction comprising millions of air cells per cubic centimeter, plus its resilience. Cork remains very much in demand throughout Australia and the world as the ideal flooring in domestic and commercial applications.

Cork as a floor surface is world renowned for its durability.

Cork floors originally laid in 16th century Spain are still in good condition and giving excellent service. Good quality cork virtually never wears out, and by using high quality sealers, a professionally laid floor from Calypso Cork will last almost  indefinitely. Requiring only occasional coating as use demands, usually between five to ten years. The clatter of footsteps which is common with other types of flooring is eliminated, the incidence of crockery breakages in kitchens is greatly reduced and because of their millions of air cells they are warm and pleasant underfoot. Cork never feels cold, as do most other types of flooring.

There is virtually no maintenance with cork flooring – a damp cotton mop is all that is required to keep the floor looking clean & new. There is no need ever to polish or buff. As most of a day is spent in the kitchen area, the benefits of a soft cork floor  underfoot are tremendous when considering how legs and feet can ache after prolonged walking on other types of floor surfaces.

Calypso coloured cork tiles have a non slip resistant surface which reduces the likelihood of slips and slides that might become harmful accidents. Cork flooring  can be laid in any part, or your entire home – kitchen, family rooms, living areas, rumpus and billiard rooms, bedrooms and even bathrooms. Cork floors are not restricted to the home. Because of their hard wearing properties they are used  in hospitals, offices, libraries, kindergartens, etc. Cork floor tiles are suitable for most commercial applications.
